Open Invitation is a performance art project designed to queer consumer space.
I am a lover of bookstores—perhaps you are, too—these semi-public spaces that celebrate the almost antiquated technology of the book. Bookstores already interrupt contemporary capitalist practices—inviting us to slow down and connect—with ideas, others, ourselves, and our desires. They cultivate a queer temporality—focused on pleasure rather than production, sensory exploration rather than antiseptic uniformity. I want to connect intimately with others in these spaces—to celebrate queer joy and alternative consumerist performances.
My goal in this project is to make out with a co-performer/participant in each Bay Area bookstore. If you would like to know more about this project or if you are interested in becoming a co-performer/participant, please reach out by email. firstname.lastname@example.org
